Bazzite + Bluefin? + Question about rebasing
I've recently read about the Bazzite-dx-nvidia package and I am very interested. What happens if I have been using Bazzite for a while a then rebase to the bazzite-dx image?
Alternatively is there a way to combine the gaming compatibility and capability of bazzite with the integration for development purposes in bluefin?
Thank you

when you rebase from bazzite to bazzite-dx you just add the dx stuff
when you rebase from bazzite to bluefin you cause unexpected issues since KDE and gnome stomp on each others files in your home folder.
rebasing from bazzite-gnome to bluefin is fine
If I rebase to bazzite-gdx, what happens to my personal files and installed apps?
gdx doesnt have anything yet
personal files are not touched
distroboxes are not touched
flatpaks are not touched
brew installs are not touched
Good to hear
Do you know of a distro or a universal blue spin that mixes the gaming aspect from Bazzite and Development setup from bluefin? Preferably KDE. The closest I've found is the Bazzite-dx but I'm not sure if that's it
closest would be bazzite dx but all it is atm is bazzite + docker and steam gamemode as a selectable login session and nested gamemode for development and testing
it also has vs code built in to the host, which might matter for some people that don't want it in a container
I was almost tempted to switch to aurora-dx and activate developer mode. Would that be better than bazzite-dx?
bazzite-dx is still pretty barebones in comparison to aurora-dx
So what about doing the other way around? If I rebase to (or fresh install) aurora-dx, what shall I do to make it more gaming oriented? Like bazzite is. I don't think installing steam, lutris, and heroic game launcher are the end of the story
Check the containerfile on GitHub would be the short answer 🙂
I game on Fedora through flatpak Steam, Bottles and HeroicLauncher. Works good. Think, that on Aurora it will work the same.
cant do VR in steam flatpak or use gamemode, other than that i dont remember what other limitations it has
On the main page it says there are extra drivers for hardware compatibility. I guess that's why my wifi adapter started working with bazzite.
dx has nothing extra driver wise than normal bazzite
Okok
Sorry to bump this but I figured that it would fit here.
Is it possible to rebase from bluefin to bazzite too?
Since this works i d assume i can rebase to bazzite-gnome?
yes make sure to rebase to gnome image
Great, thanks!
Also since i couldnt find anything about it. Does some kind of info exist that explains the differences between bluefin and bazzite as an example? Like bazzite having some optimization for games or something.
From what i ve seen bluefin is more of a workstation thing and bazzite for gaming but other than that i havent really found anything
i dont think a comprehensive comparison exist, but yeah the idea is bazzite is more gaming oriented while bluefin is catered toward general user
That would be this one correct?
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-gnome:stable
yes but dont use unverified registry
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-gnome:stableOh i just copied that from the github
Where is the difference?
one is signed and have verification, basically like http vs https
Ah got it! Thanks again :D
