Trying to get Heroic working with Painkiller Black Edition (GOG) on CachyOS Linux

Pretty much what the title says. I tried all of the suggestions users had on the proton db page already. Proton GE Latest was the first I tried. My native CachyOS Proton package the next, Experimental and so on and so forth. Like suggested on Proton db 4.11 which was installed via steam already and finally 5.0 which also was installed on steam already. I'm however not quite sure about the launch commands. So this is how it looks now. Funny thing is the first Time I installed the game I got it to start, just not in fullscreen and wasn't able to put it higher than some arbitrary 720p likely Laptop resolution. But the last few times I tried it there is not even any reaction from it, it just seems to crash or at least not launch properly right from the get go.

Remove these Second Since you jumped around too many proton builds, your prefix is likely busted Go to Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Painkiller and nuke it And then toggle this enableWineWayland": false To true Aka checkmark it Fwiw those env vars doesnt work like that, you passed them wrong

Yeah that it is. I haven't changed any drives aside from the system drive to another file system yet.

home is on the system partition, right? so. No it should not be. At least the one heroic is installed at. The one the game itself is installed on is, however.

So it should be NTFS. I configured the Fuse3 driver a few months ago, becasue I had two instances of kernel panic happen close to each other. Since then not an issue however. So that means I should reformat the disk and start over? Or is there another solution that is not requiring me to make that change? Honestly none of my steam games had any (konwn) issue becasue they are on NTFS yet so this sounds like a hassle for a single game...

Yep Just try this then Go to Heroic client settings from left Go Advanced Click on Allow Valve builds Set game to Proton Experimental I really cant see why prefix fails

Painkiller Black Edition (the original, not the HD remaster) doesn'...

This is fixable with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% but the problem is that it uses direct3d to opengl, it doesn't use dxvk anymore this way, so all the dxvk.conf options are inaccessible. Open...

I'm honestly not sure If I had the unoffcial patch and randomguy fix put into the folder or not. But whatever it may be. I'm just glad to have the game work like it's supposed to now. 🙂

I got an Update and that isn't as positive as it was yesterday.

The game seems to reset itself to this tiny window every time I close it now. I can work around it with proton experimental or simply getting the resolution up close to 1080p and then applying it. But even that method crashes the game. So I would usually need to start it at least twice for it to be in fullscreen. Not ideal. Any idea how to get it to remember the 1440p resolution even the config.ini still has listed in it? I also tried gamescope, but that just puts this tiny window in fullscreen, so that isn't going to fix it either. https://0x0.st/K_K4.log here is a log again. Should be everything still configured like yesterday.
