Low audio volume with UMC204HD
I've installed the latest Bazzite from ISO last night. I'm on a desktop PC, and my primary audio interface is a Behringer UMC204HD. Right now I'm dual-booting Windows and Bazzite just to test things out.
The primary issue I'm experiencing is a somewhat low maximum audio volume. When I'm booted into Windows, my audio interface gets incredibly loud. At 100% it's loud enough to host a small concert if I were so inclined! Critically, even at 100% volume in Windows it's exceptionally loud with no distortion whatsoever. The sound is crystal clear. However, when I'm booted into Bazzite, even at 100% volume, it's roughly equivalent to ~25-30% on Windows.
I've tried a few different things to fix this:
- The "Raise maximum volume" toggle in KDE still doesn't get much louder and also causes significant levels of distortion. The sound quality is quite poor at 150%.
- I swapped the audio interface between USB ports (2.0 vs 3.0).
- I tried selecting the card in
alsamixer so I could increase the PCM volume, but alsamixer immediately crashes and displays the message: cannot load mixer controls: No such file or directory.
- I created a new file at /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf with the contents: options snd_usb_audio implicit_fb=1
- I tried to manipulate the volume of the interface using the command line tool wpctl.
- I tried to swap the audio profiles in KDE between Default, Pro Audio and Direct. They all sound the same.
At this point, I'm not sure what else I can try. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!Solution:Jump to solution
For folks that may stumble on this thread: I installed QasMixer and it was able to directly control the UMC204HD. Once I maxed out the sliders, my audio is loud again!
