Trying to enter painring mode on Nice!Nano V2 on Corne

Tapping twice on the reset button works on the right side of the keyboard, but it doesn't work on the left side. Even double tapping GND and RST with a metal tweezer doesn't work, it simply turns off the screen. All this with the power switch at the ON position

Thanks for the details! A couple quick clarifications and steps: First, if you’re trying to pair to a device: only the left half pairs with your computer/phone. The right half never pairs to hosts; it only connects to the left. If pairing is the goal, use the left half’s BLE profile keys and see Keyboard Won’t Pair: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/keyboard-wont-pair Also see Right Half Not Working: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/right-half-not-working If you’re trying to enter the bootloader to flash the right half: - Plug a USB data cable directly into the right half’s nice!nano. - If it’s never been flashed, just plugging it in should mount the NICENANO drive (no double-tap needed). - If it’s been flashed before, double-tap the reset button quickly while it’s USB-connected. The screen briefly turning off is normal during reset. - If no NICENANO drive appears: - Try a different known-good data cable/USB port/computer. - Try double-tapping by shorting RST to GND with metal tweezers (very quick double-tap) while USB is connected. - Follow Entering the Bootloader for recovery steps: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/entering-bootloader Once in bootloader, copy the correct UF2 for the right half from Corne Firmware: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/build-guides/corne-wireless/firmware If you’re still stuck, let me know exactly whether you’re trying to pair to a host or flash firmware on the right half, and what happens when you connect USB (does any drive appear?). Reply here or tag me and I’ll help further.

I'm still stuck, I'm trying to flash firmware on the left half (my previous message which I edited I said the left side was fine and right side was bad, but it's the opposite, the left side is the side that isnt entering bootloader mode) It has been flashed before though. I already tried different cables and ports on my computer, and I already tried double-tapping by shorting RST and GND with metal tweezers while the USB is connected. But the keyboard doesn't change at all It doesn't enter bootloader mode Are you reading my replies?

I’m reading you, and I’m sorry this has been frustrating. Given what you’ve tried, here’s a focused checklist for the LEFT half: - Plug a known-good data USB cable directly into the left nice!nano (no hub), and try a different computer if possible. - While USB is connected, double‑tap the physical reset very quickly (both taps within ~0.5s). The screen briefly turning off is normal during reset. - Watch the nice!nano LED when you press reset: do you see a blue blink? If not, the MCU may not be resetting/powering correctly over USB. - Try the manual short again on the pads labeled RST and any GND on the nice!nano itself, with a very fast double‑tap, while USB is connected. If it still never mounts a NICENANO drive on any machine, the bootloader may be corrupted/unresponsive. Next steps are in Entering the Bootloader (see “Unable to Enter Bootloader” and the Nice Keyboards link at the bottom): https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/entering-bootloader If you can, please share: - Does the blue LED blink on reset on the left half? - A short video of you double‑tapping reset (USB connected) and the computer’s file explorer. If this is a recent purchase and the left nice!nano won’t enter bootloader after those steps, email hello@typeractive.xyz with your order number and that video; we’ll help with next steps. Reply here or tag me and I’ll keep helping.

LED is not blinking, the screen also doesn't turn off, and keyboard keeps typing normally like it is connected. USB is working and it is connected. It is also connected via bluetooth, I'm not sure if this changes anything. I don't need to share the video. I double tapped very quicly the left side's reset button just like I did on the right side. Right side enters bootloader mode, but left side doesn't. I'm on linux, if this makes any difference. Everything works normally on the right side. Left side is the issue.

I’m reading you—thanks for the clear details. Since the left half won’t reset or blink and keeps typing, that points to the left nice!nano’s reset/bootloader, not the host OS. Do this to isolate the fault: 1) Hard power-cycle the left half - Switch OFF, unplug the battery JST for 10+ seconds. - Plug USB back in, switch ON, try an ultra‑quick double‑tap of the reset. Still no LED blink/NICENANO? 2) Reseat and swap the nice!nanos - Pull the left nice!nano out of its sockets, inspect for bent pins, reseat firmly. - Swap the two nice!nanos between halves. - Result: - If the “no reset/no bootloader” problem follows the module to the right side, the nice!nano itself is the issue. - If the problem stays on the left PCB even with the other nano, the PCB’s reset path is likely at fault. If it follows the module: - The bootloader/reset on that nice!nano is likely corrupted or the RST circuitry is damaged. See Entering the Bootloader (check “Unable to Enter Bootloader” and the Nice Keyboards link at the bottom for bootloader recovery): https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/entering-bootloader - If recovery isn’t feasible, email hello@typeractive.xyz with your order number and what you tried. If it stays with the left PCB: - With the right half’s known‑good nano installed on the left PCB, does pressing the PCB reset still do nothing? If so, the PCB reset line may be damaged. Email hello@typeractive.xyz and we’ll sort next steps. Note: BLE being connected doesn’t prevent entering bootloader—seeing no blink and no reset reaction is the key symptom here. Reply here or tag me with what happens after the swap test and we’ll continue.

Swapping both nice!nanos worked! I reflashed the firmware and it was working fine, except for both halves connecting to eatch other. The new left side was connecting to the computer. The right side wouldn't connect to the left side. So I swapped the nice!nanos once again, but then the left side wasn't entering the bootloader mode again, which is the initial problem. So I swapped them once more and the new left side works again and the right side also works again, but they won't pair to each other (but left side is pairing to the computer). What does this mean? Is the issue on the nice!nano, or on the keyboard board? Also, how can I pair both sides again easily (I'm avoiding building a reset firmware)

I’m with you—thanks for working through all that. What your tests mean: - The “won’t enter bootloader” symptom follows one specific nice!nano. That points to a faulty/reset/bootloader on that module (not the PCB). Keep the good nano on the LEFT (central) if you can. If you bought the nano from us, email hello@typeractive.xyz with your order # and a summary of these tests. Now to get the halves talking again (no special “reset firmware” needed): 1) Reflash both halves with matching, same-version firmware - Flash LEFT with the Left UF2 and RIGHT with the Right UF2, ensuring you pick the correct variant (with or without nice!view). - Use the firmware page for your board: - Corne: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/build-guides/corne-wireless/firmware - Lily58: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/build-guides/lily58-wireless/firmware 2) Clear all BLE bonds on both halves - On the LEFT: for profiles 0–4, select each profile (BT_SEL or BT_NXT) and press BT_CLR on each to clear bonds. - On the RIGHT: power it on and press BT_CLR as well (you can do the same 0–4 sweep). - Note: This will also clear host bonds; you’ll re-pair to your computer after the halves pair. 3) Re-pair the halves - With both halves powered on, press reset on BOTH at the same time. Wait ~10–20 seconds; they should auto‑pair. - Then re-pair the LEFT to your computer on the desired profile. If they still won’t connect, follow Split Halves Won’t Connect (reset both halves together, then clear bonds on both as above): https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/split-halves-wont-connect If the bad nano must stay on the LEFT to test and still won’t enter bootloader, that nano likely needs replacement or bootloader recovery. Tell me what happens after steps 1–3, or tag me and I’ll keep helping.

For your tests reply (about the falty nice!nano) can this be a soldering issue? Like I soldered something wrong? Or its a firmware issue? For 1) I've already done it. For 2), I don't have a BT_CLR on the right side, only on the left side. 3) without doing step 2), step 3) is not working.

I’m with you, and thanks for the clear update. About the faulty nice!nano: - Since the “won’t enter bootloader/reset” symptom follows that specific module, and even shorting RST→GND on the nano itself does nothing, this is not a PCB soldering issue and not an OS issue. It points to the nano’s reset/bootloader being damaged or corrupted. - Try the recovery steps here (bottom section “Unable to Enter Bootloader” links to Nice Keyboards’ guide): https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/entering-bootloader - If you bought that nano from us, email hello@typeractive.xyz with your order number and what you tried. Getting the halves paired again (no special reset firmware needed): 1) Keep the good nano on the LEFT (central). Ensure both halves are flashed with the same release and the correct Left/Right UF2 (with/without nice!view) from your board’s firmware page: - Corne: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/build-guides/corne-wireless/firmware - Lily58: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/build-guides/lily58-wireless/firmware 2) Clear bonds on both halves: - LEFT: cycle profiles 0–4 (BT_SEL/BT_NXT) and press BT_CLR on each. - RIGHT: since you don’t have BT_CLR there, follow the steps linked from Split Halves Won’t Connect (ZMK doc shows how to clear bonds on the peripheral half): https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/split-halves-wont-connect 3) With both halves powered on, press reset on BOTH at the same time. Wait ~10–20s for them to find each other. Then re-pair the LEFT to your computer. If they still won’t talk after the bond clears + simultaneous reset, let me know exactly what you see (any LED blink on reset; does the right show keypresses when only left is on?) and we’ll keep going. Reply here or tag me and I’ll help further.

When the falty nice!nano is on the right side, it enters bootloader and works regularly with pressing the reset button normally. For connecting both halves, I could fix it without the reset firmware: since the LEFT .UF2 provided by Typeractive has a BT_CLR, I flashed it on the RIGHT side, and cleared all bluetooth connections using BT_CLR from it. It was mirrored but it worked. Then I flashed the proper RIGHT .UF2 file and turned both halves off. When I turned them back on, they paired. Then I connected it to the computer, so now everything is working propperly, both sides can enter bootloader mode.

Nice work getting it sorted, and clever use of flashing the LEFT UF2 onto the right to run BT_CLR and clear bonds. That’s a valid workaround. What this likely means: - Since both halves now enter bootloader and behave normally, the nice!nanos themselves are probably fine. The earlier “left won’t reset/bootloader” may have been a transient lockup or a marginal connection on the left side. - If it returns, focus on the left half’s physical path: - Reseat the nice!nano so it’s fully flush in the headers/sockets; inspect for any bent pins (especially around RST). - If you soldered hotswap sockets/headers, reflow those joints on the left side, paying extra attention to the RST pin/joint. - Fully power-cycle: switch OFF, unplug the battery JST for 10–15s, then try USB-only + quick double‑tap reset. - Manually short RST→GND on the nano while USB is connected; if that fails again only on the left PCB, it points to a power/ground contact issue—reseating/reflow usually fixes it. For future pairing issues: - Make sure both halves are on the same release and that you flash the correct LEFT/RIGHT UF2 (and the correct with/without nice!view variant) from your board’s firmware page: - Corne: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/build-guides/corne-wireless/firmware - Lily58: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/build-guides/lily58-wireless/firmware - If halves won’t connect: clear bonds on both halves, then reset both at the same time and wait ~10–20s. Steps here: https://docs.typeractive.xyz/troubleshooting/split-halves-wont-connect If the left-side reset/bootloader issue comes back consistently after reseating/reflow, reply here or tag me with details. If a nice!nano you bought from us ends up being the culprit, email hello@typeractive.xyz with your order number and what you’ve tried.

Okay, I believe all issues were solved so far, so should I close this or what? Also, it's a good thing to share with whever programs you the way I fixed the BT_CLR on the right side by flashing the left UF2 file, so you can suggest this to other users in the future.

Awesome—glad everything’s working now, and thanks for sharing the BT_CLR workaround. Flashing the LEFT UF2 to the right half just to run BT_CLR is a smart, low-friction fix when the right doesn’t have that key. I’ll pass this along so we can add it to our docs/playbook. If everything’s good, feel free to mark the thread as solved. Quick tip to avoid this next time: - Add a BT_CLR key somewhere you can access from either half (e.g., a function layer). You can do this easily with ZMK Studio (our firmware supports it) and avoid re-flashing a mismatched UF2 just to clear bonds. See your keyboard’s firmware page for ZMK Studio info. If the “won’t enter bootloader” symptom ever returns: - Reseat the nice!nano on that half (check for slightly bent pins, especially around RST), power-cycle by unplugging the battery for ~10s, and try again. - If it becomes repeatable on a specific nice!nano you purchased from us, email hello@typeractive.xyz with your order number and what you tried. If anything else pops up, reply here or tag me and I’ll jump back in.

Yep—that works. In a Forum post: - Click the three dots (…) on your original post (or right‑click the title) and choose Close Post. - If you see a Mark as Solved option, use that first, then close. If you don’t see those options, just reply “Solved” and we can close it, or edit the title to include [Solved]. Appreciate the BT_CLR tip—we’ll add that workaround to our playbook.
