Random permofreezes
I just installed Bazzite over NixOS recently. So far I love gaming and using it for school. But sadly, every couple hours or so, I get a full system freeze. I can only fix it by restarting. But it's gotten to the point where it freezes and is interrupting my important school work. Does anyone know any commands or processes I can run to fix this? Should I just check my logs. I use KDE, but I never get any warning or notifications about any errors, it just freezes, and I hard shutdown and reboot with my power button. All relevant info about my specs is in the screenshot of my neofetch. ASUS TUF A15 2023

I had the same problem on a desktop, just a freeze with nothing in the log after restarting
I'm trying to run System Monitor now to see if I run out of memory shortly before the freeze, but I haven't reproduced it while I have System Monitor open.
I mean, I have brand new Crucial 16X2 stciks for 32GB DDR5. and with how little resources bazzite uses i'd be suprised im getting a memory leak
the must cpu usage I get is 20 when im using discord and watching vidoes
if there's a leak the amount might not matter, I've seen people mention suddenly running out of 32GB or whatever
ill start keeping system monitor open anc checking it
point is I'm not aware of anything that fully freezes a system where even ctrl-alt-F3 won't work, BESIDES running out of memory
ping me if you freeze while it's open and visible, I'd love to hear what you find out
I'll try, it could happen anytime lol

Maybe unreleted, but I get a freeze from time to time too on my Legion Go 2 when switching to desktop mode. Putting it to sleep or restarting fixes it.
I'm guessing this is Bazzite Handheld. Is the Legion Go 2 ARM64?
No the Go 2 is x86, and I’m using the Bazzite-Deck image.
Anyway, as I said, it could be unrelated. The Go 2 came out recently and support for it is still not 100% complete.
That tracks. CachyOS may work better, I hear great things about CachyOS handheld on Legion Go's
Although if the Go 2 is still new, its probably the same case
Yeah, doubt it would work better. It’s probably the same.
Btw, do you have The Crew Motorfest?
I have the crew 2 on my ps5 but its not installed
Ah ok. No problem then.
It used to work on Bazzite, but now it doesn’t.
Did they implement Kernel Level AntiCheat?
Plus, some updates bork proton
Have you been looking on ProtonDB? newer messages may have a fix
The AntiCheat is compatible with Linux now.
thank god
suddenly now that the Rog Ally Xbox is out, suddenly everyone is making stuff compatible with linux
I guess even if people jailbreak the thing and install linux, they still want people to buy it so microsoft and the companies still get a sale
And that’s good. Windows is a mess.
If I had that thing, I'd dualboot linux and the Xbox OS
dude, just yesterday windows 11 deleted my EFI partition. I dualboot between different SSDs on this laptop and had to spend hours having grok teach me how to fix it on the windows 11 installation media's CMD terminal
i had to recreate my efi partition and reassign it and everything
That’s still fixable, very annoying, but fixable. A recent update bricked my SSD and I lost everything that was on there.
And now I got the bug where if I close Task Manager from the X, it duplicates itself.
ahh you were one of the many victims of the 24h2 ssd genocide
its like windows nine eleven
I saw on reddit that its actually a feature
Yep, it was a brand new SSD too.
windows 11 supposedly runs 3 task managers in the backround
I can only guess that the purpose for that is a radical amount of telemetry collection at the expense of your machines performance
i mourn for you brother. what brand? I have a new SK Hynix I installed windows on for my birthday, I really hope it doesn't get snuffed out as well
No that’s not it. At one point I had 10 open, each taking 3% of my CPU and 2% of the RAM.
did you open them yourselves?
ohh i reread your last message
idk how windows 11 got so unstable
it must be the layoffs
now with less skilled workers, the code is just pitiful
On silet settings of my laptop, it will get to 60 celsius charging, and thats with using my iGPU
meanwhile on bazzite hottest it will get is 45
This is your answer.

it was the same with Fedora, CachyOS, and NixOS, all distros I ran on this laptop the past few months. perfect temps and perfect stability while gaming
Yeah, never had a problem using Linux.
confirms my suspicions
I may sound like a tinfoil hat, but I think microsoft is intentially using the AI to scuttle its code and ruin machines
to force more hardware sales with their partners
it would make sense, considering their past anti consumer tactics, as well as their hand in geopolitical conflicts
Even if that’s real, they are too big to fall. This is the reality we live in.
yep. I am happy you understand. they are a monopoly with enough money to make anybody turn the other cheek
i'm just praying they dont target my linux partition, thank god i got seperate SSD's for both OS's
I only use windows for 2 reasons, to play games with KLAC, and have it around in case my university mandates lockdown browser
I also mod games like Skyrim, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, COD BO2 which their launchers dont play well with linux, its too much work to maintain them with bottles
Having separate SSDs is the way to go. Sometimes if you have a single partitioned SSD and Windows updates, it will bork the Linux partition.
Anyway, how exactly does Bazzite freeze.
Does it happen when doing anything intensive?
It does it randomly after a couple hours. Typically I'm just web browsing or editing docs in LibreOffice. Sometimes it happens after I boot, others just hours after.
it hasn't happened while gaming
Are you on the latest version?
Bazzite 43
If not, you can update by typing: ujust update in the terminal and see if it fixes the freezes.
Yea i am, I just updated hours ago
Ah ok, cause I see you are on Kernel version 6.16.4, while the latest is 6.17.5
And I downloaded the ASUS bazzite image because I use a ASUS TUF A15 2023, so they auto installed the asusctfl, otherwise known as ROG Control Center, which handles switching between my iGPU and dGPU depending on the type of app im running
Mmh, could be that the control center is bugged and it causes the freezes?
I’m not saying that’s the problem, it’s just an assumption.
I am not sure, but I doubt it personally, never had a bad experience with it
👋 I'm also getting system freezes when playing Arc Raiders and Deadlock. I cannot ctrl+alt+F# and have to hard reboot, there are no logs from when it freezes. This started happening at the end of August
next time this happens I'm going to try to ssh into it but I am not hopeful :/
not really sure what else to do to troubleshoot this
I had a similar crash with no log, but not during a game. I'm not sure how to debug it either. I'm trying to run System Monitor to see if I notice my memory usage getting very high before the crash.
I ended up switching back to CachyOS
