Senior Citizen fashion advice?

I'm looking to get some jeans for my dad who is 80. He's definitely not one of those NYC street style grandpas on instagram. Whenever he dresses casually he tends to wear the same worn out tapered jeans that he has had for at least the past decade. I'm not looking to push him out of his comfort zone with anything radically different (he often comments on the trend toward wider pants as something he could never embrace), but I figure he'd at least be more comfortable in something with a proper straight leg that doesn't need to incorporate stretch fabric to fit well.

I was thinking about getting him these JW Anderson straight jeans from uniqlo, but I'm not sure if he'd go for them or if there are any better options around the same price outside of basic levi's or other mall brands.

Would the light wash be the best way to go? That's probably what I would pick for myself, but I don't know which is preferred by older guys now. I can remember when that was the classic Dad Jean color, but now it seems more dads and granddads are wearing slim dark jeans like the ones he currently has. He mostly wears neutral colored tees and polos with black running shoes.
