How much RAM?
I am planning to set up a server for my group of 30 people to play the mod Promimence 2. We have researched our options and have settled for hetzner - the only thing we don't know is which plan to go for. We are considering the 16GB budget option but would like a second opinion.

if you’re renting a dedicated server from hetzner, then at minimum, you should get this plan https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/ax42/
if you want a cheaper plan, then you’d probably be better off using a shared host. Any auction server with only 16gb of ram will likely have a poor cpu for running a minecraft server.
as always with hetzner, be aware that their ddos protection isn’t great on their dedicated servers
its a bit more complicated than i assumed in that case. im not 100% on what you mean by shared host. i was looking at this pricing list https://www.hetzner.com/cloud/
by shared host do you mean something on hetzner?
Flexible Cloud Hosting Services und VPS Server
Hetzner Cloud Hosting Services ✓ VPS Server und Block Storage ✓ günstige Preise ✓ in Deutschland, Finland, USA und Singapur
@Snow Kit
and thanks for your response
the price is also a big deal for us
by shared host, I mean a host that specifically deals in hosting game servers (ie: pebblehost). Normally, running a game server on a vps will result in poor performance due to cpus with low clock speeds being used to host vps’s
realistically though, hetzner cloud is paid by the hour at the end of the month based on usage, so

oh ok i thought hetzner was an option with decent cpu for cheap. if you had to say, is pebblehost my best choice here then? i had a quick look at their minecraft server option and followed the reccommended plan picker thingy. are there any alternatives we should consider?
pebble, bloom and pufferfish all have a decent reputation in here. I personally don't use any, but I've heard they're good.
personally I have a hetzner dedicated machine (ax52) that I run a few vms on and a couple game servers on and whatever needs to be on a stable network connection. everything else runs on servers in my basement 😅
great. following the plan picker, i got this result. does this seem reasonable? it would help to give me an estimate for looking on the other sites

unfortunately we are all broke uni students and dont even have any old computers lying around. although some of us are experienced with setting up a server we own, none of us have rented. in other words, i apologise for the handholding questions and the unwillingness to just try it out, but any lost money is a big hit
hetzner cloud at least is billed hourly, so a 3 day test wouldn’t even cost 1eur
thats a good point, we will try that out soon then, thanks
probably my last question
going back to this, i woulf like to clarify i am aiming to run a grand total of 1 server on this ever, is this still the least i should go for?
if you’re going for a dedicated server, yes. If you’re aiming for a vps/hezner cloud, nah
