Error Running Game on Steam Deck Desktop Mode
Have linkedmy accounts and downloaded a game, but whenever I try to play it just says it's unable to initialize and to ensure my drivers are up to date. Steam deck has been regularly updated on all fronts I can think of outside of manually downloading gpu/cpu drivers.
I have also run the flatpak update/reinstall commands to no effect.
Heres the link to the log file trying to run the game (Grim Fandango Remastered) https://OxO.st/K9Qm.log

you'll have better luck using the windows version of the game
you could try enabling the steam runtime for the native version, but the windows version probably just works out of the box with no tinkering...

Ah thank you
I'll give this a try, any known reason why theLinux version wouldn't work on Linux? I assume the steamdeck version is probably causing the problems but wondering if it's known or a hunch

sometimes the Linux build is based on dependencies that you do not have and cannot install
this gets worse if it's an old build of the game, and the rest of the world has moved onto newer versions of that dependency

Ah yeah that makes sense. Okay cool good to know, I'm in the menu now so that indeed did work, thanks folks.

also the linux binaries have limited access only to the things exposed by flatpak, so sometimes you need something that you could maybe install in a non-flatpak environment through the package manager of your distro, but not with flatpak

So does that mean i could potentially install heroic through one of the other Linux installs I saw on the site and circumvent the issue? Obviously not every time, but occasionally?

on steamdeck, the only recommended way is using flatpak

Okay lol was just about to clarify that point as well

you could maybe try the appimage, but it doesn't mean the game will work, since you can't really install random packages on the steamdeck, only flatpak stuff
also, windows versions of the games usually have better support of gog features like cloud saves, so you should always prefere the windows version, there's no real benefit of the linux natives in general (maybe there are some exception, but our experience is that most are just worse)

lmao noted
First time using this discord post functionality, is there a way to mark this as resolved or some such?
Or does it just drift into the ether
extended-salmon•5d ago
you can add the solved tag
but it will drift into the ether eventually anyway
you can also right click a message > applications > mark as solution
that will also mark a message, as the actual solution and not just the thread

Neato, thanks for the prompt and helpful responses
