Newbie User: 2GB Ram works?
Hellow! So i found my 2GB Ram laptop just laying around and i plan to revive it and use it as a server since the storage is quite large 512GB although its HDD, and i was thinking, it's currently have Linux mint installed and even that already using 1GB ram on idle meanwhile the Immich requirement is 4GB, is there any way that i can make this work like installing a very lightweight Linux variant or i just need to give up and find any other solutions?

If this ticket can be closed you can use the /close command, and re-open it later if needed.Almost certainly not. Maybe if you disable all the ML features it might barely work
Even 4 is tight tbh
I don't mind, do you have any recommendations on ways to reduce the ram usage, like lightweight linux distros?
No, I don’t
Alright then, thank you so much for responding!
If you are lucky, idle Immich can fit into 1 GB RAM. During start-up/upgrade its memory usage is typically higher (reindexing, geodata loading).
Freeing several hundreds MBs with more lightweight distro (if you run desktop then smth like XFCE or LXDE) will definitely help. Swapping to HDD will kill performance...
And, yes, it's better to start with ML features disabled (and/or comment out the ML container section in compose).
So you can try and see how it fares.
Just don't run modern browsers on this laptop :KEKW:
Thanks for the tips but it's too late now the laptop burned (literally, due to overheat) so now im thinking, is it worth it to buy something like Raspberry Pi 4 8GB? or is there any cheaper/powerful alternatives
I only have my main pc, laptop for school and an old windows xp pc that obviously can't really do anything nowadays so i don't have anything that i can use anymore lol
Cheaper and more powerful would be a second hand (office) PC for instance
Raspberry Pis really aren't meant for server hosting
And you pay for features you don't use, like the GPIO pins
