Numlock locks up a-key

When I press numlock (or have NumLock on startup enabled) the a-key seems to be locked up by the system. If I have a terminal open I can see that 'a' is continuously being entered in the command line until I press another key. Typing 'a' anywhere else doesn't register at all. It seems like the issue disappears when I log out and in again. Then things work until numlock is pressed again.

I also noticed that holding down a key only registers one key stroke. So for example scrolling with arrow keys is not possible. Exception is in the terminal where it works but seems to be very slow.
