How good is Bazzite OS when it comes to privacy
Please tell what bazzite OS collects about the user as I could not find a clear privacy policy
Please do not suggest other distros, I am interested in bazzite OS but want to be aware of the data being collected about the user and also if it can be stopped
Don't intemix privacy with security
I know it will have good security as it is based on fedora atomic and bazzite OS just tweaks it for better performance which rarely alters security, correct me if I am wrong

ootb bazzite will open steam at the startup so it will send some data to valve if you're that concerned. also whenever the system updates itself it will count to overall monthly user count to countme which is anonymized
you can always disable steam at startup, no problem
Anything else?
I just want to know specific about bazzite as I know games and stores need some tracking
other than that not really
You'd be better suited looking into the desktop environments, KDE and Gnome
Really?
but ofc keep in mind on which software you're using
but I know that KDE's user feedback is off by default, for instance
I am talking about only the OS after a fresh install
then that's basically it
Wow
this ain't Windows
Yeah, I never used windows, just tried desktop and went with linux straight
Its too good to ignore
I am gonna use bazzite as my main, its great then
I was just concerned if it collected anything else
like this is the user feedback slider in KDE, I have it cranked but I'm pretty sure by default it's completely off

Ohhhh....
probably the biggest concerns about privacy are the apps you use, and if you share system logs, they might have stuff in there that identifies some of the apps you use
Thanks @Onihikage && @Lumaeris Lumae

something like this other than steam startup
Wow
I knew it actually, but I wanted to make sure its the same with bazzite
I am going to make the switch to bazzite now
One more question, does it reduce security of fedora atomic in any way?
no
Wow
I wonder why isn't linux mainstream yet
app compatibility, that's it
Its good
many professional apps don't work or don't work well
many do, but many still don't
It has better app alternatives
It really depends what you mean by that. It's a very broad question that can't easily be answered in my opinion
Bazzite is a volunteer effort
only sometimes, and when your professional workflow is based around a specific app, a company isn't going to be willing to spend a ton of man-hours retraining everyone to use something new unless they feel they absolutely have to
If you don't have a specific threat model in mind then the answer is that bazzite is good enough.
most likely solution is for Linux to get enough market share for the developers of those apps to start supporting it with official versions
Yep
the minute say Adobe releases official Linux builds of Photoshop, suddenly that's an entire business segment that could transition away from Windows without any retraining
Back to my original question, is there any security degradation from base fedora atomic?
doubt it
as I said, there's none. it does support rpm-ostree layering but usually it's discouraged to use it since flathub apps are prioritized
Ok everyone
I am satisfied now
Thankyou @Onihikage, @renner @Lumaeris
