2.4Ghz dongle for 8bitdo Switch Leverless Arcade Stick won’t connect

I put the dongle in the machine, the light flashes, I turn the controller to the pc mode/XInput, and it just turns right back off and can’t connect
It works once every 20 times I try to connect it. Cant find any definitive answer online.
