Need help with nvidia
I just installed bazite yesterday to try the gaming distro.. The games are running in integrated GPU and not in my nvidia (switcherooctl shows integrated as default and nvidia is not default)...
This is my status in rpm-ostree

That's an RTX 4050, so I believe you're on the wrong image. Rebase to bazzite-gnome-nvidia-open.
I had the similar issue with nvidia-open as well
Well the image you're on currently has drivers meant for much older GPUs, so that was never going to fix this
What brand is the laptop?
acer predator helios
will revase to nvidia-open
rebased to nvidia-open .. still the game runs in integrated GPU and not nvidia (checked mission center and it shows only integrated usage)
so long as switcherooctl still shows the Nvidia GPU as device 1, try exiting Steam and running
switcherooctl launch --gpu=1 bazzite-steam and then launch a game from Steam once it's upwill try
no luck.. still the game ran in integrated GPU
Weird. Maybe this won't do nothing, but have you tried switching your power options to "performance" mode ?
not yet.. I thought it wont make any significant difference and left it
it is in balanced now
I remember on Windows occasionally having this really weird bug were my laptop would set itself on balanced or power-saving mode, effectively disabling my dedicated gpu (rtx4070). It took me far too long to realize that balanced and power-saving modes would use the cpu for graphics when launching games, and I kinda freaked out going from 60fps to barely 20 in Elden Ring first time it happened. I don't know if that would fix your issue, but it's worth checking ^^
sure will check once and lyk

weird
and no luck.. still runs in integrated gpu.. running in performance mode (can hear fan speed)
is it some driver issue or am I missing something
welp, switcherootcl show my GPU as not default, but when I launch a game, it uses the GPU
tried to look dmesg
getting this warning : [ 592.138952] NVRM: RmCheckForGcxSupportOnCurrentState: NVRM, Failed to get GCx pre-requisite, status=0x62
nvidia ?
nvm
u said it already.. I am dumb
but what makes you think your gpu is not used in games ? shitty performance ,
?
10FPS on rise of tomb raider benchmark + the stats from mission center shows it
nvidia gpu utilization is 0%
even the menu of the game is running in 10FPS (login menu)
I've seen ppl on other distros having this issue, and turns out secure boot wasn't disabled in bios. Also worth checking out, maybe ?
mokutil --sb-state
SecureBoot disabled
just did that now
any change after reboot ?
none...
welp. I know it's a pain, but instead of a rebase, maybe a full clean reinstall of Bazzite nvidia-open image is worth a try ? Also, maybe worth a look in your BIOS/UEFI options ? what's the model of your laptop ?
acer predator helios neo 16
I've seen some people having the same issue, but on windows... still digging

Acer Predator Helios Neo 16-Having Low FPS with Low GPU usage when ...
Hello, I have Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (2023) i5-13500HX and RTX 4050 (PHN16-71). I am having Low FPS with Low GPU usage when playing any game (minecraft, stumble guys, etc). Games also crash after a few minutes (after 5-10 minutes). I have noticed that an error is also being thrown in event viewer from nvlddmkm with…
on windows, I faced this but then nvidia control panel and change performance mode for that game and boom it is fixex
be back after dinner
looks like it comes from the power settings. I know it's a pain, but it's worth reinstalling Bazzite (not a rebase, a full reinstall), and then setting your laptop to performance mode. I don't know in Gnome, but it's an easy step with KDE
alr.. also is kde good ? (and can I use it as daily driver like code browse binge watch etc)
I really enjoy KDE, much more than Gnome. It has a few bugs/issues (due to Nvidia gpu and Wayland not playing nice), such as some taskbar popups not showing, but I'm fine until it's fixed. I also use it as a daily driver for about 3 months now, and it's been running much better than Win11
thats all I need to hear
ymmv, but it's been mostly smooth since then, apart from those bugs
I am getting soo sick of windows 11 ngl
yeah, it's a shitshow. Win11 is possibly worse than VIsta, frankly
I havent used vista personally but yeah.. win xp is much better and win 7 is the god standard
Win7 was really good ! So far, most games run perfectly ootb, and almost all runs really fine after some tinkering
hmm
will update here once I get kde version
hope this finally works !
hopefully
just a thought, there may be an advanced UEFI/BIOS menu for your laptop. On my MSI, there was one, and I was able to change fans/power options in there.
if it works well, I am thinking of removing win completely
(I can't switch fans profile for my laptop on linux)
you may also have more luck with another distro, like Nobara or Cachy
hmm
I can switch profiles coz there is a button in lap which lets me change fan speed
hopefully it works in bazzite itself.. I kinda like the UI here (but lets see)
tq for helping.. will lyk once I reinstall (might do it after a couple of hours.. tired atm)
Cachy and Nobara offers KDE versions, if I'm correct
hmm
