(GOG, Steam Deck) Deponia Doomsday Windows version: unable to save progress
Hi everyone, I've encountered this problem when running the game for the very first time. It's a relatively obscure title and the problem may be GOG-version-specific (ProtonDB has no reports of a similar problem, the game is classified as Platinum), so there is little documentation.
Problem Description
When playing Deponia Doomsday you have the option to save your game manually by opening the pause/main menu during a game and then switching to the save menu. When running it on Heroic, saving your game does not work at all. You can select a save slot and click on "Save Game" inside the save menu, but if you do so nothing will happen. The "Save Game" button will just vanish and the save slot will deselect itself with no save game actually being stored.
I'm running the Windows version because the Windows version supports achievements that I can access via Heroic through Comet (and they do work, as I managed to unlock the first achievement you get after passing the tutorial/prologue section)
Troubleshooting I've tried
1) Running the game using Valve's versions of Proton (trying to match the versions that were reported as working on PortonDB)
2) Changing the prefix folder from the default one to a 'prefix' folder I made inside the game's installation folder (tried due to a reddit post reporting a similar problem for a different game)
3) Making sure Proton-GE and Heroic are updated (update Proton-GE from inside Heroic +
4) All tests reported above plus a vanilla one without changes were done in SteamOS desktop mode, running the game from within Heroic. I originally also tried running the game through Steam a couple of times via the "Add game to Steam" option in Heroic. This won't solve the problem with save games and will in fact result in other glitches, but for now I'd rather focus on the Save Game issue first.
System and other info
I'm running flatpak Heroic on a Steam Deck OLED.
