what to look for for long wool coats
So after adopting an unused trench coat from my dad, my eyes have been opened to the world of coats; I'm looking to get a longer wool one, preferably secondhand, but I don't really know what to look for as far as judging quality (brands is the easiest way but so often with vintage you run into random stuff you can't find anything about). Anyone have advice? Budget definitely under 200 preferably under 150

- Budget in numbers
- Specific measurements
- Openness to buying secondhand and/or online
- Location: country/continent is fine
- Timing/urgency
this is an example thats been on my mind but i dont think i can afford armani even used lol
honestly you can kinda do it by touch especially in person
provided that you know what decent wool feels like
look for a shape that you like and for it to fit you comfortably and for the length to fit you the way you want it to hit
Don't worry about minmaxing a $30 wool coat that was made before you were born. Put it on and if it fits in the shoulders, sleeves, and length is good (past knee is ideal imho) then spring for it if the price is right and it doesn't feel like plastic.
Your first coat doesn't have to be a forever thing but getting a bit of wear in on a cheap one from goodwill will give you a sense for what to look for if you want to save up and splurge for one later on
Go for raglan sleeves if you want a more casual style coat that goes well with jeans or any kind of casual trousers. Also a raglan sleeve is more forgiving sizing-wise on the shoulders so you can wear an oversized coat more easily if that's the vibe you want to go for.

if its from over 20 years ago and looks to be in good condition, well its already lasted 20 years
