GPU Driver Has Known Issues

When I try to play the finals, it always says "you're using a gpu driver that has known issues. Please install the recommended version. I was confused because everywhere I see it says the GPU drivers are baked into the kernel. If someone could point me in the right direction as I am wanting to learn Linux.
