Keeping the legs and head warm
Hi everyone,
In these cold times I was wondering how does one manage to keep their legs warm when even corduroy pants no longer hold up? I was also wondering if you had any ushanka recommendations for men?
Thanks a lot!

Hi @Otto Von Biskiwit! For better answers, include:
- Reference pictures
- Budget in numbers
- Specific measurements
- Openness to buying secondhand and/or online
- Location: country/continent is fine
- Timing/urgency
location is EU
layers
Generally a beanie for the head
Under pants pop on some long johns and you’re set
Tights for the legs
even for pants? I can hardly get two pants on top of each other without it being uncomfortable and bad looking
I’ve got a ushanka style hat I got at mountain warehouse for £20. it’s not insanely fashion forward but it keeps
my head warm while hiking
This is where tights/long johns come in handy
oh
any recommendations?
thing to look out for?
oh nice i'll check the brand thx
I got mine at TJ Maxx (American TK Maxx) primarily for running, though I've also occasioally worn them outside of that
Uniqlo is selling heattech base layers this time of the year
also does the long john need to go all the way down to the ankle or slightly higher?
that's a matter of preference
If it's hella cold I might tuck them into my socks
Hanes, carhartt, calvin klein, uniqlo, fruit of the loom etc etc etc. Whatever you can afford and is available.
Base layers do crazy things for warmth
Or like thick ass wool pants but
aight think will do that
There are also quilted pants liners that are meant for extreme cold, though imo if it gets to the point where you're considering a pair of those it would be better to just stay inside
lol alright hope I'll just need long johns
long johns will be good
A big long coat could also help
wool socks + lined & waterproof tall boots too. Lots of stuff to keep u warm and dry.
We lose a lot of heat through our feet so it's important to keep them insulated
Every army in the world produces some sort of long johns, so unused surplus is super easy to find.
Wool socks do remarkably well at keeping you warm (I think corgi makes a merino sock that’s warm and still reasonably thin).
Super long puffer coat has worked like a charm for me, it’s like wearing a blanket
