Pipewire crackling when I click on volume tray icon

My issue is with my speakers, I get crackling but only when I change or look at audio devices. I'm giving Bazzite 43 (ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite:stable
  • 43.20251127) a go with Windows 11 sinking and so far this has actually been the only almost deal breaker.
can mitigate/'fix' my issue with systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber but I feel like that using a nuke to kill an ant.

Speaker setup: PC -> USB -> DAC (PCM2704C) -> SPDIF -> Logitech 5.1 Speakers
  • Yes its 2/2.1, not high on my list
Now I switch to my headset for Discord and will open the volume icon and switch devices to the Headset (Logitech Pro X) and visa verse when done. However just opening the volume tray icon widget thing will cause my speaker audio to crackle. When I open the Sound system settings and switch devices from there instead of the desktop system tray widget thing its fine and works as expected.

I've attached pw-top both in the good and crackle states. I've tried setting pipewire conf to force 48000 sample rates which either does nothing or causes Bazzite and other software to barely work/respond - there was one point where I thought I completely bricked the install - from a audio conf!?

Any suggestions for config or if a specific DAC replacement would just solve the issue would be great. Though my recent discovery of the Sound system settings working fine suggests this is a bug with the widget.
