Run out of storage space while scanning external library?

Just got Immich up and running, and now letting Immich scan an external library located on a NAS. My Immich install is on Proxmox, in a Docker LXC, installed via the recommended Docker Compose method on the website. When I created the LXC, I allotted 30GB of storage. However, I can see my used storage space steadily creeping up as Immich is scanning my external library. I'm guessing this is because Immich is using the available storage space for things like thumbnail creation, etc? Is it advisable to pause all jobs in Immich, stop the LXC container, resize it, and then resume jobs? Can I resize without pausing the jobs?
For additional info, my Proxmox install is on a 1TB NVME drive. In general, would it be better to keep the primary Immich storage in the LXC container since that's on the faster NVME storage? Do people typically change their thumbnail location to a different custom location? I'm pretty new to all of this (Immich, Proxmox, etc.) so if I'm referring to things incorrectly, that's my mistake!
