Dakar Desert Rally from Epic Games won’t launch

Hello guys,

I’ve been trying to run Dakar Desert Rally for many hours (more than six), and the game simply won’t launch.

I tested multiple Proton-GE versions: 10-26 (latest), 10-25, 10-10, 9-27, and 9-4.
I also tested Wine-GE-Proton 8-26, 8-7, and 7-27, but these versions gave me even more issues.

At some point winetricks worked and I installed vcrun2022, but nothing changed. No launcher, no game window, nothing.

I see an error in the log:
ERROR: _v2-entry-point (umu) cannot be found in...
But I have no idea how to solve this.

I tried a few times to clear ~/.local/share/umu and ~/.config/heroic/tools/runtimes/umu, clear the Heroic Launcher cache, reinstall Proton-GE and reboot the system, but this problem is still not solved!

When I was using Windows 11 24h2, the game worked, I only had to apply a workaround to avoid its well-known fatal error (a fault from the game itself, unrelated to Heroic) using the parameter “-force -dx11” on the game executable.

I also searched here on Discord, Reddit, and YouTube comments looking for a solution, but found nothing useful so far.

For reference, I’m running the .deb version of Heroic Launcher.

My log is here!
launch.log4.17KB
Solution
It worked, @CommandMC

While checking the router firewall, I didn’t see anything being blocked when launching the game. The same happened when checking the UFW log and the DNS connections.

In this case, the issue was caused by OpenSnitch. After reviewing the logs, I noticed that I had previously blocked a Python instance, specifically python3.13.

Once I unblocked it, the game launched just like it did on Windows.

Anyway, thank you for your time helping me, and Merry Christmas!
