Can't switch to desktop mode, goes straight back into gaming mode

Recently got a Steam Deck and installed bazzite deck gnome. Had been doing good so far, and I know I got into desktop mode at least once before to install flatpaks and customize settings and such, but now it won't work. It just boots straight back into gaming mode.
Tried a full restart, tried checking for updates. No go.
Used decky quick launch to get into terminal hoping there was something I could do, and it was spewing repeated errors about an overlay. Tried uninstalling discover overlay but that wasn't it, and I really don't know what to do.
