Unable to add non steam games to library

Hi,
I've been trying to add a non steam game to the library through the option offered by steam and it won't work. The .exe I'm selecting is not showing up in the list, and the button in the bottom right corner "add selected game" stays greyed out.
I've tried adding the game both by using the button in the bottom left corner "Add a Game" and through the drop down list "Games" menu.
