Fanmade Valorant Map - Grotto
Early 2024 I tried designing a Valorant map, originally it was an early concept for what I thought Abyss would turn out to be (before it released of course). Mid November this year, I came back to it, disgusted by my old attempt, I tried again at a fully underground map I call: Grotto.
- Lore: Radianite rifts once tore across the two Earths as noted by Sage in Skye's agent trailer, but unbeknownst to the Protocol, especially Skye, Australia is where they formed most frequently, drawing Kingdom’s attention to what appeared to be an impossible Radianite hotspot. Unable to locate a surface source, Kingdom abandoned the site never realising the Radianite lay sealed within a vast subterranean cave system deep below.
After Skye left to join the VALORANT Protocol, the Scions of Hourglass moved in, uncovering the hidden caverns and transforming them into an underground research facility. When the Protocol later returned to investigate lingering rift activity and deal with the Kingdom threat by Skye's request, they discovered the Scions’ operation buried beneath the craters and scars left on Alpha Earth's surface.
Secured by the Protocol, the facility is now proof that some Radianite was never meant to be found.
- Map Details: Grotto's gimmick was originally an underground lake at the back of A site that worked similarly to the tunnel at the back of B site Icebox but it just didn't fit with Valorant (or maybe just in my map) and I couldn't get it to work :/ Now it's pretty generic and the closest thing to a gimmick is that the left half of the map is much higher up compared to the right, and has around a 2.5 box height difference between the two levels. Originally, the map was also alot more organic, cave-like, and less square, but I changed it to fit in the style of other maps, in game I still imagine the walls being rough and irregular, like Bind Attacker spawn.
