Issue: Bazzite 41 installer consistently fails on ASUS Zephyrus M16 (2023)
bughardware-compat
Hardware • Laptop: ASUS Zephyrus M16 (2023) • CPU: Intel i9 (13th gen / Raptor Lake) • GPU: RTX 4070 (hybrid Intel + NVIDIA) • Install type: Dual-boot alongside Windows • Firmware: ASUS UEFI
⸻
Symptoms / Errors
During boot of the Bazzite 41 NVIDIA installer (multiple attempts), I consistently hit early boot/systemd failures, including: • Kernel panic – Attempted to kill init • systemd[1]: Caught <BUS> • Failed to start anaconda.service • Failed to start systemd-logind.service • [!!!!!!] Failed to load rescue.target
At this point the installer drops to an unrecoverable state (emergency shell or hard failure).
⸻
What I’ve already tried
BIOS / Firmware • Disabled Intel VMD • Disabled Secure Boot (OS Type: Other OS) • Set GPU mode to Hybrid • Disabled VT-d • Disabled Intel SGX • Disabled Intel TXT • (All changes verified and tested across multiple reboots)
⸻
Installer / ISO • Correct ISO: Bazzite NVIDIA Laptop (Fedora-based) • USB re-flashed multiple times (verified) • Attempted both graphical and fallback installs
⸻
What I’m asking • Is this a known issue/regression with Bazzite 41 or Fedora 41 installer kernels on Raptor Lake ASUS laptops? • Are there additional kernel params or a known-good installer image for this hardware? • Is a fix already tracked upstream?
Happy to provide logs, photos, or test patches if needed.
