Issue with using Xbox Controller as Gamepad for games

Is there a way to set up gamepad controls in the launcher? or are the settings different for each game. I have tried a few games in my library, with an xbox controller connected to my steam deck via bluetooth, but the inputs either do not work on some games, or are mapped in weird spots in other games.
