Network Media Location Fail #immich#

so call me noob, i'm not super great with linux... but i used the tteck helper script from https://community-scripts.github.io/ProxmoxVE/scripts?id=immich to create an LXC container on proxmox for immich.
everything works fine out of the box...
i followed the pages guidelines for changing the media location but i'm having some issues whenever i swap it. it keeps giving me a 'sync failed. cannot process backup.' error.
the tteck page shows this warning:
To change upload location, edit 'IMMICH_MEDIA_LOCATION' in /opt/immich/.env, and create the symlink 'upload' in /opt/immich/app % /opt/immich/app/machine-learning to your new upload location
i was unsure what it meant so i took to chatgpt.... no matter what it had me do... every time i swapped the location to my network share.... it would give me the failure error.
can anybody explain to me what i'm missing!?
