Custom keyboards: one showing up as a controller, the other not showing up at all.

Is there any way I can force it to show up as a keyboard and re-assign its keys? Perhaps even just brute-force change its inputs to keyboard commands? Also a three-key macro keyboard I own (literally only 3 keys and a knob) does not show up at all, and all inputs show up as "c". Is there any way to detect or change this?
