Thumbnail loading speed on ios much slower than on web

Env:
- running 2.4.1 on both server and ios client
- deployed in k8s - 1 immich server pod, 1 dedicated immich postgresql db, 1 redis pod
- thumbnails on dedicatd ssd drive
Issue:
- Loading thumbnails on web is almost instantenoues - this includes opening random albums and scrolling to random dates
- Loading thumbnails on the ios app works only if scrolling sequentially from the top. random skips often lead to the thumbnails never loading
- I've also noticed that web requests (to my nginx reverse proxy) also stop when skipping large time intervals
- Sometimes thumbnails do load after a longer wait
Any ideas how to debug further and whether this is expected?
