I have been thinking for a while now about an open source multi function instrument display device that integrates well with home assistant and SignalK? Something similar to Raymarine i70s or Garmin GMI20 in terms of functionality and perhaps more. Or are you happy with your phone and KIP and no need for an extra device on the boat?
My requirements and suggestions would be:
Hardware: Something less than 50$/£ in price. It would be difficult to find a sunlight readable weather proof display though Responsive display, high performance and high resolution display Square form factor ESP32 P4 series sounds like a good candidate Built in speaker/buzzer for alarms and alerts
Software: Something easy to customize easy to add new screens or remove screens I thought of using esphome as the base architecture, but that is my opinion Wind instrument Engine information Environment information (temperature humidity etc) Tank levels Weather forecast Tidal information Anchor watch HVAC control for heater or AC Basic chart plotter (ESP32 P4 can actually handle this) etc...
What do you think, is it worth the effort? or would you rather stick with your mobile phone/tablet?
