Hello,
I’m a pretty new PC gamer and just completed my first solo build in November. I was a console gamer for most of my life, but started to move towards the idea of building my own PC after I bought a steam deck.
I decided for my build that I wanted to go with Bazzite because I’ve really enjoyed steam OS on the deck. I do also dual boot windows because I play a few games with my friends that have kernel anti-cheat. It’s been pretty amazing thus far on Bazzite. But I have been running into an issue when trying to run certain games specifically in desktop mode.
I can boot up a game like Counter Strike 2 and make it to to the menu screen, but then after about a minute or two, the screen will go black.
I was searching online for causes of potential solutions and one thing that I believe is causing this is that the resolution or frame rate that’s being pushed to my monitor is causing this issue.
I have a 1440p and 240 Hz MSI monitor. I have the resolution for the OS set to 1440p and 240 for the refresh rate. I noticed when I booted Counter Strike 2 that in the menu it said the max refresh rate was set to 400 FPS.
I went into big picture mode, forced a 60 FPS limit, and changed that setting and I no longer have the issue. This was also an issue that I experienced with Claire Obscura 33 and Halo Infinite and made the change and no longer had the issue.
I’m wondering if there’s a way to prevent this issue from ever occurring in the first place instead of having to go into big picture mode, set the frame limit, and then make the adjustments in the game menu. Is there a way to accomplish this?
Tl;dr- can I change a setting somewhere that will always limit the resolution and frame rate when a game boots based off of my system settings in Bazzite?
My system specs are below:
