volume briefly resets to really high on a sleep/wake cycle in gaming mode (steam deck)

if i have headphones plugged in while entering sleep mode, remove them while the device is asleep, and plug them back in after the device wakes up, i get blasted, and the second i change the volume by one notch, it's immediately where it's supposed to be. this isnt as bad with my ol mate sennies (6xx, 300 ohm, reasonable sensitivity), but when i pop in some IEMs (with impedances generally 32 ohms or lower and usually higher sensitivity), HOO BOY can that be momentarily unpleasant
additional notes: i'm using the gnome version of bazzite, with the most recent updates applied, and it's game independent.
