Best way to host a vanilla server with 40+ players?

I’m planning to run a Vanilla Minecraft server and expect around 40+ players online at once. I’m trying to figure out the best hosting setup and would love some advice. Specifically:
Disk space: How much storage should I realistically expect to need for a server of this size? I want to make sure I don’t run out quickly.
Lag mitigation: Since it’s Vanilla, are there any proven ways to reduce lag for that many players without adding mods or plugins that alter gameplay?
Cost efficiency: What’s the cheapest option that still gives good performance for this size server? Dedicated server, VPS, or something else?
Any guidance on what hardware specs I should aim for, or hosting providers that are known to handle 40+ players well, would be super helpful.
