Broken ROCm/HIP support for RDNA2 GPUs (RX 6800 XT) (NO IS NOT FLATPAK)
bug
I am experiencing a complete lack of functional ROCm/HIP/OpenCL support on Bazzite with my Radeon RX 6800 XT. While the GPU is detected in applications like Blender, any attempt to use it for rendering results in an immediate crash or a complete freeze.
Details:
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT (RDNA2)
System: Bazzite (all components native/default, no manual modifications)
Note on Flatpak: This is not the common Flatpak permission issue. I am using the official binary from the Blender website.
Affected Software:
Blender: Cycles (HIP/HIP RT) starts to render and then crashes/hangs.
DaVinci Resolve, Darktable, Stable Diffusion: All fail to utilize the GPU for acceleration.
Comparison: Everything worked out-of-the-box on Nobara. I suspect this might be related to the current kernel version or the way ROCm packages are bundled/configured in the current Bazzite build.
Questions for the Team: Is there a planned fix for this, or a known workaround? Currently, the pre-installed ROCm/HIP packages seem non-functional for RDNA2 users. I would love to stay on Bazzite, but these tools are essential for my workflow.
