In another thread of mine regarding video on mobile, a few people suggested "Mux" for video hosting.
(I had planned on using Bunny.net, but had some really rude people over there, so I'm not too inclined to give them my $$$.)
Not sure where to begin, since this is a large topic - and not just a quick CSS question - but I guess my overarching confusion deals with getting a reasonable guestimate of the COST to host video on my own, and determining if I can realistically afford it?!
I am working on a startup that covers A LOT of things in the news. I am part independent journalist and part expert in my area.
To give some context, I have shot about 25TB of video in the last few years - and have lots more to come. Most of this video has yet to be edited and published. And since I took a break from video editing, all of my work in an hour away in a storage unit, so I don't have any finished videos handy for reference.
It seems to me that my average interview (15-20 minutes) was like 5-20GB in filesize in DaVinci Resolve. And I think when I exported at the highest 4k settings, that would give me a .MP4 file that was 5-10GB in size to be uploaded to YouTube? (But I really don't remember being a newbie to video-editing.)
Of course I do not need a 5-10GB raw video file for someone to watch it on desktop or on mobile - who knows how YouTube converts what I uploaded into what people actually watch?
Questions:
1.) How can I take large video files and get them into a smaller size that won't choke a user's computer/phone and won't cost me an arm-and-a leg?
2.) Can anyone speak to what video hosting would cost on "Mux"?
3.) Any advice on navigating what I want to do and making it a reality would help. (It's pretty easy to find solutions online that cost $500-$1,000/month with no support. I'm a little guy, and I have a dream, but not sure if I can make it a reality without winning the lottery?!)
