Cross subdomain cookies not being set

I have tried asking a million different AIs how to configure this and many of them are convinced that you can't use subdomains with
It's possible that this feature was designed to work in setups where the cookie is being set from a subdomain, whereas in my setup I am setting it from the root domain. Perhaps this doesn't matter. No clue.
