Filament congealing under extruder

Hey, my x axis linear rail started binding so I'm in the process of disassembling it to replace it; I took my extruder off and noticed a bunch of mushed up filament sitting on the hotend plate. Has anyone seen this before/knows what causes it? I'm using a stock 3.2 hotend setup so orbiter 2.5 and rapido. Thanks!
