Hello OpenClaw Team,
I am reporting a critical security vulnerability in the gmailhook component of OpenClaw, affecting the step-up verification process.
Vulnerability & Impact:
The gmailhook currently exposes sensitive 6-digit step-up verification codes directly in the agent's chat interface (e.g., Telegram, WebUI) upon receipt. This leads to a confidentiality breach, allowing any chat participant to view the code and increasing the risk of user impersonation.
Additionally, the gmailhook incorrectly validates the sender of these codes. It expects the code to come from the human user's primary email, when the code is actually sent by the agent itself. This results in false security alerts and confuses the verification flow.
Suggested Remediation:
1. Redact Code: Modify gmailhook logic to never display verification codes in chat. Show a generic confirmation instead ("Code received. Verification in progress.").
2. Correct Sender Validation: Adjust gmailhook's logic to correctly identify and validate the agent's own email address as the expected sender for step-up codes.
This vulnerability undermines a core security feature. Addressing this is a high priority.
