:horse: RDR2 blows up RAM, crashes PC upon start up

I have been playing this game on this Linux PC for months now without any issues. Since yesterday it crashes my PC on start up. First the Social Club and launcher windows open like usual, then the actual game opens, but weirdly not in full screen like before but as a smaller but borderless window. It's the initial grey loading bar on a black background. The loading bar makes it to around 95% full while the RAM usage goes to 99% and then everything freezes. Only one time the RDR2 window closed but Heroic Launcher still showed the game as "currently playing". RAM went back to normal and the machine didn't crash.
