New CNAME records giving error 400 Bad Request for custom domain

I'm not sure what the issue is, I feel like this is fairly simple: my client's domain is simpliunlimited.com. I am trying to add a subdomain wholesalerportal, and I added the necessary CNAME records but getting error 400.
custom domain: wholesalerportal.simpliunlimited.com
The records are set to DNS only. When I try proxy, I get an SSL error. So I switched back to DNS only.
Any help someone might be able to give would mean a lot. Thanks.
