Having problems getting wallpaper engine to work

question

I have installed the wallpaper engine for kde plugin from the wallpaper section in system settings, when trying to select the folder location after pressing the library button, i change the directory to "~/.local/share/Steam/" , but then when i press ok, it changes back to "/var/home/"myaccount"", how do i get it to stay as the directory i input?
