Constant and systematic memory loss in Discord channels
Environment:
OpenClaw latest (npm)
Model: anthropic/claude-opus-4-6
Channel: Discord (multiple channels, one gateway)
OS: Windows 10/11
Description:
The agent loses context every few messages in Discord channels (sometimes every message), leading to two related issues:
1) Repeated context loss — The agent forgets what was discussed minutes ago. When asked to recall a command it just gave, or context from earlier in the same conversation, it responds with "I don't have context on that" or "can you remind me?"
Aggressive compaction — Context compaction triggers frequently (context fills up fast in Discord due to large tool call payloads — config dumps, API results, etc.).
Constant loss of the conversation thread.
2) Post-compaction hallucinations — After compaction, the agent sometimes reconstructs incorrect context. Example: it confused a Discord username ("salty-ze") with another user, and attributed statements to the wrong person. It confidently stated wrong information that was fabricated during context reconstruction.
Steps to reproduce:
Have an active Discord channel with the agent
Send several messages involving tool calls (config checks, node operations, etc.)
Context fills up → compaction triggers
Ask the agent about something discussed before compaction
Agent either says "I have no context" or hallucinates incorrect details
Expected behavior:
- Agent should retain key conversation context across compaction
- Agent should not hallucinate/fabricate context it doesn't have
- Important information (commands given, decisions made) should survive compaction
Actual behavior:
- Context is lost within seconds
- Agent denies having said things it clearly said
- Agent fabricates wrong context post-compaction (wrong usernames, wrong commands)
Notes:
This makes the agent unreliable for multi-step tasks in Discord where you need it to remember what it just did
