Hi again, this time I think I've got an actual proper bug. My husband and I have virtually identical desktop PCs (only the GPU is different because we take what we can get) and both have a Gigabyte motherboard that has the Realtek Wi-Fi 7 RTL8922AE chipset.
When I installed Bazzite last fall, it worked fine-ish. I play exclusively single-player titles and don't spend a lot of time in discord voice chats. So I probably didn't notice that my wifi was dropping out constantly. I knew the connection was weaker overall than my husband's PC, but he was also closer to the door. Our router is downstairs in the room below the office because that's just where the wires were fed into the house. It only became a problem over the winter when I ended up on voice chat more regularly for online D&D. I kept dropping my connection entirely, so I just used my phone instead because I couldn't be bothered. I'm cursed when it comes to motherboards failing. I figured that was my problem and I'd just deal with it for the duration of the campaign and then move on with my life. Well, now my husband is giving Bazzite a try and his wifi is dropping like crazy, too. It worked fine on Ubuntu, so there's something going on with the drivers and the software in Bazzite that I don't know about.
I'm not enough of a Linux whiz to troubleshoot this on my own. But we're both on the latest stable release and I mentioned the chipset earlier. Is this a known issue? If so, is there a straightforward fix? The way I see it, we've got a couple of options. If it's just about proximity, then we could have the modem/router equipment moved upstairs or buy a mesh kit. But if the issue is going to be present regardless, then I can either have the modem/router moved upstairs so that we can switch to ethernet or we change to a different operating system. Thanks in advance!
