audio interface issues

hey so i grabbed an m audio m track solo recently and a mic and im pretty sure it all works fine, if i use the direct monitoring feature it sounds great, but in linux when i put the audio into a program like obs or something and record it its mega quiet, even with the gain boosted til its clipping, this sounds awful and obviously too much in the monitoring but the recording will be barely audible. its also coming through as a stereo device despite being mono, but linux audio settings at least what i can see in the gui are miserably limited, how can i change this to improve the volume levels and make the device show as mono
Solution
ok if anyone is curious about this in future, i found a solution, you can use easy effects with the stereo tools function and sum to mono both channels, this will apply to any app you tell it to and will remember your settings each time.
