Could someone please explain to me how the rank triangle works?

This is my first act playing val and by me playing quite a lot(and luck from having good teammates) I climbed from being placed silver 1 to now sitting in diamond 1, I was just wondering why my rank triangle is still silver at the top? Is it because that's where I was placed this act in the beginning?
