Heroic unable to find Valve Proton

My steam install is at /home/USER/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/ and it installs games to /home/USER/storage/Steam/steamapps/ as /storage is a second, larger drive. Having checked the "Allow using Valve Proton builds to run games" setting in Settings > Advanced, I'm still unable to see any Valve proton builds.
I'm guessing it's due to the default steam path not going to where the games are, but if I swap that path, it doesn't resolve the issue and show Valve proton versions.
How do I get the Valve proton versions to show up in Heroic?
