Opinions on legacy (1.8) and modern servers (1.20+)
Just wanted to read people's opinion regarding this topic
While modern versions are the go to for most players and server owners, the reality is that there's still a lot of people playing on 1.8 (even 1.7 which is +10 yrs old) and worst, some new players go straight to 1.8
And some players simply can't play on latest versions because of old hardware.

How LuckPerms "predicts" permissions
This is not an issue, only something I was investigating for fun
I've been curious about how LuckPerms manages to "predict" permissions the server has available.
I made a very small single-file plugin to see this feature in action with just a single
Permissible.hasPermission(String)
function at the start of a command.
Apparently before trying to execute the command, luckperms is not yet aware of this permission, however after trying it once and opening the editor, it does show as a possible permission to choose....Solution:
I tried that and it lead me to
AsyncPermissionRegistry

First server, please help me not screw it up!
So hereโs some backstory: me and a couple of my buddies just threw together a server from leftover parts after upgrading our gaming rigs. Iโve been into computers for a bit (tryna get a career out of cybersecurity), so I think Iโve got a decent plan, but I figured Iโd ask for advice before I screw something up. Iโm picking up the last of the parts in a few hours and plan to install Debian 12 on it. I wanna remote desktop into it (not SSH), but Iโm not sure what the best software is for that (Reccomendations would b greatly appreciated). The planโs to use the server for stuff like Minecraft (Vanilla, light modding, maybe something like Crazycraft), Terraria, a couple Discord bots I made, etc (rust?). Specs are an i5 9400F, GTX 1650, 16GB DDR4, and a something gb NVMe SSD. I know it canโt handle all that at once, so Iโm looking for something that makes managing/configuring the servers easier without me having to manually do everything (Something with a gui would be ideal, im still tryna keep myself sane). Any solid tools for keeping an eye on resource usage? Is there anything out there that can auto-start/stop servers based on whatโs needed at the time? On the security side, Iโm good with not downloading shady shit, but if thereโs anything extra I should do to lock it down, lmk. Last, are there any other cool things I could run on this thing besides games and bots?
Lmk what you guys think, any advice is greatly appreciated!!
btw just posted something similar on the reddit so that might be why you're seeing this again...

Need help with authme (online mode on)
I'm not sure why my friends are using auth me even tho online mode is on were not too technical in Minecraft servers either so we don't know and they have their profiles set up using auth me too,
Now the thing is the server is a month old and my friends have progress on their accounts and removing authme might mess with that I'm not sure exactly, and I joined them today, I registered in authme and all and logged in once, I changed my username on Minecraft because I'd been meaning to change it and now I can't log back in to the account it keeps saying user doesn't exist and when I try registering it says account already registered and maximum accounts have been registered
So I can neither register nor login and removing the pluggin from aternos may mess with the progress...
Java Server Setup/Clarification
I hope this is an appropriate place to ask this question as I am not a server owner as of yet, but seeking some advice prior to becoming one.
I'm looking to purchase a server to be able to play Java with my brother. My plan is to run it Vanilla but with Lithium installed server side for optimization. I've reached out to three somewhat popular server providers seeking clarification on what type of server package I would need, but all of the help has been via an AI and was not very helpful.
Most of the server providers offer servers as 'Vanilla' or with 'Modpacks'. Then I read on reddit that if I wanted to run mods I would need a 'Paper' server. I'm just a bit confused and was wondering if someone could help me out understanding exactly what I would need to start up a Java/Vanilla server with the ability to run mods such as Lithium. Thanks!...
What server version would be best to use? 1.8 vs 1.20
Hey Admincraft, Would it be better to use 1.20 or 1.8 as my server version? Both players should join my server and play, and it has nothing to do with PvP. I just want your recommendations. What are the pros & cons of both?

Help
I am not an experienced realm owner and I'm trying to figure out the best course of action to take in order to get my realm up and running to where I can make the perfect spawn point that's flat without having to do the fill command I know there's a block you can use to get rid of a bunch of land I don't know what block it is it's been awhile since I've used it but I know that it takes the land and you can view it inside the block and choose the radius in the block in order to destroy that land...
Anyone know what's causing this lag?
https://spark.lucko.me/sV9ZaSbzTR
Seems to happen in intervals- I have no idea what's wrong with it (or why our non-heap Memory and G1 Survivor Space keeps maxing out), can anyone help?
We aren't even maxing out on allocated CPU/Ram, it's super confusing and has been detrimental to most of our players- Plugins don't even seem to be using much CPU...
Playit gg Connection reset issue
Since the official MC reddit isn't going to offer help. I hope you guys have a solution.
Does anyone run playit for their servers? If so, do you run into the same issue with connection reset error? Because this is very much a real issue even for me for being in the USA, server being hosted (by me) in the USA, and the routing is USA. Idk why most players are having issues connecting.

Paper vs Fabric?
It seems to me that Paper is better than Spigot and Fabric is better than Forge. Maybe that's true and maybe it isn't though. I've noticed modded servers usually is Fabric. I want to make an SMP with a vanilla feel, but with some mods added. Which one should I use?
Need help investigating potential memory leak
This is a bit out of my league, trying my best here lol. I don't necessarily know what to look for, but I know for a fact something isn't right on my server. Before I encountered issues, my memory would never go above 6gb or so idle, but now I notice the memory usage just goes up more and more every time chunks get loaded or players join etc.
So from what I have gathered I probably am encountering a memory leak somewhere. I couldn't get MemoryAnalyzer to work with my Java for some reason, so I am using IntelliJ. I have no idea what I am looking for here.
Also-- if this helps at all, I ran and here is the link. ...
