Game not launching from Steam library (FF7R)

I have installed the Epic version of FF7R, and while it runs fine when I launch the game in Heroic Game Launcher, it goes into the 'Loading Game' loop if I try launching it in SteamOS after adding it to Steam library.

While it's not completely unplayable, when launching from HGL, frame rate doesn't lock to 40fps (as I set using the quick access panel) and instead goes up to 60fps. Not sure what's causing this.
