Trouble connecting PI to Octopus V1.1.... I think
I think I'm having trouble getting my PI to Connect to my board. I have a ratrig 500 that is my first build and I'm brand new to all this. This is the end of my current moonraker.log Any help or direction would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
-Kev

What is the error you are getting in the mainsail interface?
helpful-purple•2y ago
This? I tried to fix this error by reversing it with “!” At the beginning but nothing happened.(lines 199-201 printer.config)
Correct, so that is not an issue of it being unable to connect to the octopus. That is your printer.cfg being wrong.
helpful-purple•2y ago
Yea, I think there’s a few issues. (Lines 199-201) Lol I tried to reverse it with “!” But that do anything
upload your printer.cfg, I can't read it in screenshots
what version of Rat-os are you using?
helpful-purple•2y ago
helpful-purple•2y ago
You have a v-core-pro?
helpful-purple•2y ago
3.1
well, your printer.cfg is showing v-core-pro all over the place which is a completely different machine
helpful-purple•2y ago
Yea, i did notice that.
What do I need to do?
I appreciate the help
You probably need to go through the configuration again and pick the correct things
I personally haven't used the 2.x version because it is still in ALPHA
You should change the title of this post, it has nothing to do with connecting the pi to the octopus
helpful-purple•2y ago
Yea, about that configurator stuff... This is as far as I got. I can't get the next button to become selectable. I've flashed on the microsd, regular usb,...thats why along with the logs i dont think its' seeing my board
helpful-purple•2y ago
and that it tells me that
Well, I thought it did because it says it's not detecable. lol
i don't know shit though.
did you check your sd card changed firmware.bin to firmware.cur?
helpful-purple•2y ago
Yep, on three different cards. They all changed to CUr
Are you sure it is a octopus 1.1 and not a octopus pro?
helpful-purple•2y ago
Not a 100%. Sometimes Amazon post are whack
Look at your actual board, it will say on it
helpful-purple•2y ago
it just says octopus
i looked for it because every ther btt product its been obvious
ok good. And you made sure to select the correct firmware after you compiled it?
helpful-purple•2y ago
the screen in the 2321 photo?
tine stamp
time
No idea which post you are referring to. What firmware did you download and flash onto the octopus?
helpful-purple•2y ago
it's time stamped for 11:21
that photo
ratos
there is no photo at 11:21 for me, so again I don't know which one you are referring to
helpful-purple•2y ago
no, sorry that was the pi
What is the name of the firmware you downloaded?
that is not what I am talking about
helpful-purple•2y ago
That's why asked
Did you download firmware, renamed it to firmware.bin, put it on the SD card and flash it to your octopus?
helpful-purple•2y ago
Yes
and what was the name of the firmware file you downloaded?
helpful-purple•2y ago
is should be something like
firmware-btt-octopus-11.bin
helpful-purple•2y ago
before I changed it to firmware.bin
good, just double checking you downloaded the correct one
helpful-purple•2y ago
I followed all the instructions on the documentiotation
Did you remove the jumper from the octopus so it can communicate over USB?
No offense but a lot of people say that and miss key parts
helpful-purple•2y ago
it lookee like the new github rev said to add
helpful-purple•2y ago
i did both
i feel that lol
what do you mean?
helpful-purple•2y ago
I'm not offended. Just here to earn
learn
the new pic to flash from the usb looks like is says to add the juper
but i did on micro
with and without the jumper
you remove ALL jumpers that are not the green boxes
helpful-purple•2y ago
all the options lol
correct
thats a yellow box
remove that one too
helpful-purple•2y ago
i did that and flashed it successfully without it
did you ever click the "check board status" button?
helpful-purple•2y ago
nope. lol
where might that button be?

at the bottom of the page
helpful-purple•2y ago
there does seem to be a strong suggestion to make sure the board is connected
why i labeled the post like this
you didn't do step 9...
it says to then click the button
g2g it is 1am here, good luck
helpful-purple•2y ago
I appreciate the help, sir
much appreciated
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
So where are we at now?
helpful-purple•2y ago
Step 8 i guess
Is it supposed to power itself back on?
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
The Octopus or the pi?
helpful-purple•2y ago
Um, both. theyre inline power wose
wise
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
The Pi won't start itself back up. The board should just have power whenever there's power applied to it, so it should be on.
The PI is an actual computer and doesn't like having its power just randomly cut off so the warning there is that if you're going to turn the entire machine off/on again, shutdown the PI first so it does a clean shutdown, then flip the power switch for the whole machine off and back on again.
helpful-purple•2y ago
ahhh, i flipped that around in my head i think. I gotcha
So nothing happens when the I cick the check board status button
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
It's probably still not detected then
Can you take a photo of your pi/octopus wiring
helpful-purple•2y ago
helpful-purple•2y ago
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
is the Octopus's USB-C connected to the usb c or the usb a on the pi
helpful-purple•2y ago
usb on pi side. c type on octopus side
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
I think you forgot a letter there
helpful-purple•2y ago
usb-a
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
Hmmn, that seems reasonable. This is definitely a USB cable that supports data right?
Did you compile the firmware (from the "Octopus v1.1 was not detected" page, placed it on the sd card, put that into the octopus, turned it on, left it for a while, shutdown the pi and turned off the octopus and then pull the memory card to check that it got renamed to firmware.cur?
helpful-purple•2y ago
helpful-purple•2y ago
yes
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
do you have a regular cable you can test with that doesn't have a weird power button in the middle?
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
edit:
helpful-purple•2y ago
Well, fuck me. Wife is grabbing one.
guess i should read the dets better
i ordered that specifically for this too
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
I try not to look at my "ordered for a project and it didn't work out" pile of stuff. 🙂
helpful-purple•2y ago
😩
Yep, that was it
lol
i should've read the dets on that chord. I saw pi 4 and thought i had a winner
jokes on me lol
fascinating-indigo•2y ago
Yeah I have no idea wtf that cord is supposed to do
I guess maybe it uses some obscure spec to let you turn off the pi with power button presses while a device is connected or something?
helpful-purple•2y ago
waste two days of my life lol
When I built my V-Minion, I spent two days troubleshooting why the MCU went in shutdown everytime I tried moving any axis. Turns out RatOS checks all motor drivers for comms, and a misplaced driver was causing the issue lol
Might want to add that to your post instead of here
