horizon zero dawn not launching
when i try to launch either in desktop or gaming mode i get a silent crash here is the current log file. please help and thanks in advance.

where would i install that from?
or maybe i should be asking how i install that? i really dont know anything about using linux or wine. do i just type "Install mfc140 with wine tricks" into the console or do i do something from within heroic?

There’s a winetricks button in Heroic’s game settings
Open winetricks and keep clicking OK until you see the option to install a windows DLL

ok, ive done that and installed the dll but the same behavior is still happening, if i click the play icon in heroic it changes to an "X" for about 15 seconds and then back to a play icon. should i re-send the log after installing or is there another step i need to take like restarting for example?

Either enable Proton logging with environment variable PROTON_LOG set to 1 or change the runner to Wine-GE (enable dxvk and VKD3D and reinstall mfc140)

its all within heroic
in the game settings page you can pick what wine to run, or any environment variables to set (like PROTON_LOG = 1)
id try the proton logging first tho

ok, under wine versions i dont see wine-ge or anything about logging i only see things listed as "Proton - " i had been using Proton-ge-proton7-41 but i also have "7-28 and "7-30 as options or "proton-experimental" I also dont see the logging option in any of the other check box settings under wine extentions or other. I'm happy to try something but its not clear to me how to do what im being asked to. Am i perhaps looking at the wrong set of game settings? I went in through the gear icon below the game

you have to use heroic's wine manager (on the left side panel) to download and install new versions of wine
but like i said id try the environment variable first before mucking about with wine versions
there's only one game settings page

Proton logs are saved to the home user directory
They wouldn’t be added to the Heroic log

ok, im happy to look for that log but i dont know what im looking for. all i see in the /home directory is lost+found, .steamos, deck, doorstop, and swapfile

your home directory should just be in the file browser like it would be in windows.. lemme look on my deck

ok found that
i see a documents file and inside that horizon zero dawn but i dont see a log file there
i also have a /games/heroic/horizonzerodawn file with some logs in it

it will be something like /home/deck/steam-<appid>.log or something like that
at least if its done through steam, not sure how it ends up with heroic

so prior to the hunt for the log i did get wine GE 7-34 installed and added the "dxvk and VKD3D and reinstall mfc140" through winetricks and with that i can launch the game via the heroic launcher play button though i cant select the language i suspect because steam input isn't inserting itself yet but if i try to launch in game mode i get an ever spinning ring around the steam icon and the option to abort but that does nothing.

i dont have this game on anything but ps4 so i cant really give it a try
but if you have the logs from running wine-ge, you can post those
i usually stick to wine-ge since logging is more straight forward, and generally it just works.. but on the deck you will end up sacrificing space to it and that can be an issue on the limited sized disk it has

ok, after that i removed it from steam and re added it then restarted steam via the desktop app and then went back to game mode and now finally its playing. thanks for the help id offer to post those logs but since its working id imagine they wont have helpful info lol

Very short: I just bought the game from GOG. Used GE-Proton7-51 It didn't start no error shown. Checked here, installed mfc140 with wine tricks, game runs, thanks!
