Epic Games save game problems.

Hi. I've recently got my Steam Deck, and I already owned God of War on Epic games store. Now, I've been trying to find ways to install games from my Epic library on my Steam Deck. While all the forums state a fairly straightforward way to do this, no one explains how to straighten out the snags. 1. I chose to access Epic games through Heroic launcher, and while it was much easier than manual installation, my God of War savegames are getting deleted every time Heroic launcher exits, and I'm not able to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla at all... Please help.

The game is not installed on the SD card. I have a 512Gb variant, and I am trying not be reliant on a Micro SD, as I have had bad experiences with them in the past.

For GOW: several things are wrong with your wine prefix configuration. you've got your prefix pointing at the default .wine folder in the user dir, this is typically wrong for AC, you need ubisoft connect installed to the same prefix as what the game uses in order to play, which in this case seems to have been configured properly with wine you can probably do a search for ubisoft connect in these forums as this has been asked many times.. but basically you install uibsoft connect via "run in this prefix" in the game's settings page

Classic case of "person toggles/changes random options to maybe do something" They also have Nvidia Prime enabled, which gave them this (rather clear) message about it probably not being a good idea

yeahhhh hehe.. i think the default intuition coming from windows is to hit random buttons till it works, which windows is generally good at absorbing, to some extent at least to a greater degree than linux heh

I don't think it would be a valuable use of our time to implement restrictive safeguards around these options though. If you modify things you don't understand, and something breaks, that's not our responsibility And of course, if we would have something like that, there's always the 1% chance that some configuration out there breaks it

@Allora I'm a Linux noob, sorry about that. Still trying to understand the custom installation protocol here. You said that my prefix is pointing to the default wine folder. Where should it be pointing, instead? Thank you for helping me with this...

Normally each game gets its own prefix on Heroic, if you don't toggle that option. Which means each game has their isolated prefixes that a change you've made on a prefix ( eg changing Wine version you use ) won't affect the prefixes of other games. This also includes installing something into that said prefix with winetricks for example Steam also has seperate prefixes for games

the shot of it is different games need different things to make them work, the prefixes allow for that. But your configuration seems to be modified from heroic default, and thus you are pointing your prefix at the wrong place Heroic puts prefixes in ~/Games/Heroic/Prefixes by default.. each game gets its own folder within that directory

@Allora @"Leopard" would uninstalling and reinstalling God of War help? Maybe I may have messed up something unintentionally. Also, what version of Wine is most suited to God of War? I'm getting Proton 7-35 as default.

Don't do that, just change this prefix destination to something else than your currrent, it will create a fresh prefix in wherever you have pointed when you hit play

Okay. I don't think I am versed with Linux enough to be able to execute that. So I did uninstalled it and did clean install. Now the following message comes up:

This is the message because of which I had originally selected the wine home folder.

And here's the new log file, if you could please have a look at it again... Thank you so much!!

Useless log with Ac Valhalla in it, not sure what i should do with it. Did you go to settings and set a Wine build that is present on your system for it?

if you go to the settings and a wine version does show up as selected, change that to something else and back, sometimes it detects the wine version wrong until you update settings
